Tonto National Monument was established to preserve, protect and interpret prehistoric two prehistoric cliff dwellings, other archaeological sites, and the natural resources of the Upper Sonoran ecosystem. The Monument is over 1120 acres of desert environment comprised of diverse plant and animals including many species of cacti, snakes, bees, scorpions, lizards and tarantulas. The Monument ranges in elevation from 2300' to 4000' and temperatures in this high desert location may range from 30 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Park Guides connect people to parks. They play a key role in ensuring that visitors have a meaningful experience by serving in a frontline customer service position. By helping visitors take an interest in the places they visit, Park Guides promote stewardship and provide the opportunity for those visitors to care for park resources. The primary responsibilities include:
Providing talks and walks where the features are largely self-explanatory, easily observed, and the interpretive service is of a repetitive nature. Assist with the presentation of educational field trip programs for students of all ages. In addition, this park guide will represent the monument at local community events, festivals, career fairs and celebrations. Under the direction of a hirer graded Interpretive staff member, the park guide may assist with developing event flyers that explain the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, hiking trails, park events, and inform visitors of potential safety hazards. Maintains park publications, bulletin boards and various interpretive exhibits. The incumbent is also responsible for working closely with interpretive colleagues, other divisions, partner groups, and ensuring the safety of visitors, employees and the public. Collecting appropriate fees at a visitor center following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Incumbent operates an electronic cash register, computer or Point of Sale system. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
being involved making oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Examples of specialized experience include Park Guide or tour leader; museum or observatory guide, docent, naturalist; environmental educator or teacher; teaching assistant; or other similar work. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as American history, science, public speaking, parks and recreation, education or communications. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, NOTE:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified in B above (50% of the related coursework required). Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
